This area marks the end of the low-quality alluvial deposits on the banks of the Vidourle and begins the beginning of red filter soils with rolled pebbles. These soils are particularly suitable for slow ripening, conducive to aromatic grapes intended for long vatting or in oak barrels. It is with these soils that experiments with very aromatic vintages of the Viognier grape variety have been successfully carried out. But also with fabulous Chardonnays which easily withstood prolonged aging in oak barrels. Note that for red grape varieties this is the only valid area of the terroir for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, an essential grape variety for cellaring reds.
